On NPR this morning, Michael Chertoff’s endorsement of Hillary was absolute. He wasn’t just dissing Trump — in fact he avoided talking about Trump. Instead he focused on why he supports Clinton, and it’s high praise from someone who spent years working to take the Clintons down.
I worked with her when she was a senator and I was Secretary of Homeland Security, and I found her in both instances to be well informed.
She exhibited good understanding of what the issues and challenges were, to be steady in terms of her approach and also interested in educating herself. And I generally found her to have good judgment.
He speaks about 9/11 and how much that changed his perspective.
I realized that in the '90s we spent an enormous amount of time pursuing issues involving the Clintons' associations back in Arkansas in the '80s, Whitewater and other things, and we didn't spend nearly the same amount of time on what bin Laden was up to and others were up to in the region. And it reminded me that — you know — the ability to spend an inordinate amount of time chasing small peccadilloes is a luxury we only have in a world at peace. In a world at war, you've got to focus on the top priority which is protecting the United States and protecting our friends and allies.
If you can spare 5 minutes, I recommend you listen to the full interview. He’s asked about her emails and provides the strongest response I’ve heard for why that really isn’t an issue.
